چکیده
A new formalism will be presented in order to study real time evolution of quantum systems at finite temperature. Probability distributions for time-correlated observables will be studied non-perturbatively and fully quantized. This works for various systems, including ones with tunneling phenomena. We have obtained good results with some computational methods which can be used on models with several degrees of freedom. Thus it looks feasible to study vacuum tunneling in real time for relevant field theories at finite T.

We generalize l ocal l exicographic SSOR preconditioning for the Sheikholeslami-Wohlert improved Wilson fermion action and the truncated perfect free fermion action. In our test implementation we achieve performance gains as known from SSOR preconditioning of the standard Wilson fermion action.

We calculate one loop corrections to the domain-wall quark propagator in QCD. We show how the wave function is renormalized in this theory. Especially we are interested in the behavior of the massless fermion mode, which exists near the domain wall at the tree level. We show that this massless mode is stable against the quantum correction.

We study a series of problems in classical Yang-Mills theories using lattice methods. We first investigate SU(N) self-dual configurations on the torus with twisted boundary conditions. We also study the zero modes of the Dirac equation in topological non-trivial background Yang-Mills fields.

In the large fermion mass limit of QCD at finite density the structure of the partition function greatly simplifies and can be studied analytically. We show that, contrary to general wisdom, the phase of the Dirac determinant is relevant only at finite temperature and can be neglected for zero temperature fields.

We discuss the possibility of extracting phase shifts from finite volume energies for meson-meson scattering, where the mesons are fermion-antifermion bound states of the massive Schwinger model with SU(2) flavour symmetry. The existence of analytical strong coupling predictions for the mass spectrum and for the scattering phases makes it possible to test the reliability of numerical results.
